Hailey Weber - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada

Living in Saskatchewan her whole life Hailey Weber (b.2000) has spend much of her time developing roots in her community through high level sport playing soccer with the University of Saskatchewan, developing bilingualism, diverse volunteerism, and many lived experiences within the community she calls home. These experiences have influenced her practice as an artist, landscape painter, feminist, and eco activist, particularly her interest in a meditative, intentional, and introspective approaches to depicting space. Rooted in the study of natural phenomena like rain, snow, wind, and water, and how such elements are shaped by habitats, seasons, and global warming trends, her work merges biological considerations with the subjective, participatory and mnemonic. Infused with a sense of being and belonging as an active participant , her paintings are a response to the world  where exterior and interior worlds meet and entwine. To be in tune with the earth’s larger rhythms and the particularities of “home” is to connect to a feeling of interdependence and belonging.

Hailey has been the recipient of a variety of Awards, notably the Judy Poole award for the most distinguished graduate from the department of Art and Art History at the University of Saskatchewan. Other recognition includes the Misanchuk memorial travel award for research, an Honours Research Award from the college of Arts and Science, the Elizabeth Schollie award for exceptional work in the field of painting, five scholarships from Sasksport, the Anna Bychinski Award for excellence in the fine arts, three funded projects from SaskArts, and a grant from Creative Saskatchewan.
